Jharsuguda Mass Suicide Attempt Case: Mother-daughter duo dies at VIMSAR

A 58-year-old woman and her daughter who had committed suicide died on Thursday while undergoing treatment at VIMSAR(Veer Surendra Sai Institute Of Medical Science And Research) in Burla.

The deceased name has been identified as Pinki Biswal and Pushpabati Biswal. While Pinki died late last night, her mother breathed her last early this morning.

As per the reports, five members of the family include Srikant Biswal, his mother, and three sisters and the family consumed phenyl after being aggrieved over the death of the younger son Deepak Biswal at Lahandabuda area under BTM police limits of Jharsuguda district on Tuesday.

Deepak had got critical injuries in a road accident in 2018 and later went into a coma. He was undergoing treatment at his house. However, he breathed his last at the nursing home, after which his family members took the drastic step by consuming phenyl.

Suchismita Mohanty, the inspector of BTM police station, said the five people were traumatised after 22-year-old Dipak Biswal succumbed to his injuries in a nursing home on Monday, two years after he met with a road accident.

“The family’s head Golak Bihari Biswal, an employee of PSU Mahanadi Coalfields Limited, had also died after retiring from service in 2016. After the accident involving Dipak in 2018, the family had spent over Rs 30 lakh on his treatment but there was very little recovery. On Monday, he was admitted to a nursing home after his condition deteriorated but he passed away,” the inspector said.
