Jammu, Feb 17 (IANS) Kashmiri state government employees working at the Civil Secretariat here on Sunday demanded protection for sending their families home.

The Civil Secretariat, the seat of the Jammu and Kashmir government, houses all the top offices and functions for six months each in the twin capitals of Srinagar and Jammu.

In a statement issued on Sunday, Ghulam Rasool Mir, Chairman of the Employees Coordination Committee at the Civil Secretariat, demanded transportation and protection from the state government for sending their families back home in the Valley as they feel “insecure in Jammu.”

The statement also said that the employees’ families were facing shortage of essential commodities in Jammu, the winter capital of the state.

“In case the government does not provide our families safe passage to leave, the employees will have no option but to leave and not come back till the situation returns to normal in Jammu,” Mir said.

Meanwhile, curfew continued in Jammu district without any relaxation for the third straight day on Sunday, as the authorities did not want to take any chance with the law and order situation.

The curfew was imposed on Friday after unruly mobs torched some vehicles and damaged several others carrying registration numbers of the Valley.

Mobile Internet services too remained suspended for the third consecutive day in Jammu.

The army is assisting the civil administration in restoring order in the city. No untoward incident was reported from anywhere in the city so far on Sunday.
