Pregnant lady travels 3061 km to reach home in Kerala amidst COVID-19 lockdown

They reached Haripad Government Hospital by 2 noon

Alappuzha: A pregnant lady travelled 3061 kilometres across nine states within three days, a pregnant woman and her husband now had safely reached home amid coronavirus lockdown. The lady named Vrinda and her husband Vishnu started their journey from Navin Hospital at Greater Noida to their house at Pallana in Thrikkunnappuha in Haripad on March 29.

The couple had to travel in an ambulance with ICU facility and they passed Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.

Raj and Satyaveer drove the couple and it was their first-ever trip to south India.

Google Map was the only help they could find in the way.

They were accompanied by first aid technician Santhosh also.

The drivers and technician had stocked chapati and Vishnu and Vrinda had bread and juice for food during the long trip. They also carried a huge container of water. Most of the times, they survived on water. The couple carried a medical report which suggests emergency medical care for Vrinda.

On Wednesday the ambulance got first blocked by police when they reached Walayar. First they asked the couple to return to Delhi.

But ultimately they managed to convince the officers about their situation and were granted permission.

They reached Haripad Government Hospital by 2 noon. The doctors examined Vrinda and gave her a drip. She was discharged by 6 in the evening and both are asked to remain in quarantine for three weeks.

Vrinda was hospitalised in Noida since March 26. The doctors advised them to return home as early as possible. The ambulance was rented for Rs 1,20,000.

Their family sent Rs 80,000 earlier, and the rest of the amount was arranged by pawning their gold.

Vishnu worked in Electronic City in Noida and Vrinda was a customer service assistant for an MNC. They were living in Indira Nagar. They said the police action in connection with the curfew is very strict in Delhi.
