Kerala: Police arrest 21 for sharing explicit pictures of children on social media

Police seized several laptops, mobile phones and other gadgets from 29 locations during the raid

The Kerala police have arrested 21 people for sharing nude pictures of children. The arrests were made on Sunday. In order to catch hold of the accused, the police conducted raids in the 12 districts throughout the state. They also termed it as ‘Operation P Hunt’.

Police seized several laptops, mobile phones and other gadgets from 29 locations during the raid. Allegedly, the accused have shared nude pictures of children on social media.

Kerala police said in a statement that the police was able to trace the people who were involved in sharing nude pictures of children on social media with the help of the technology.

Allegedly, 84 people were found sharing and viewing the inappropriate content on social media.

The pictures were being shared on Facebook, WhatsApp, and other social media platform. Talking to a news portal, DGP Loknath Behera stated that similar way will be adapted to catch hold of people in the state who access obscene content.

26 cases were registered against the 21 people who were caught. The police said that the raid was conducted in five areas of Thiruvananthapuram, 5 areas in Ernakulam, 7 areas in Alapuzha, 4 areas in Thrissur, 3 area is Thrissur rural, Kollam rural and city along with Kozhikode.

The raids were supported by cyber cell and hitech cell and were supervised under the special department of the police formed to prevent sexual violence against children.
