Kerala is the first state in India where the state lotteries were legalised. The right idea came from the then Finance Minister of Kerala, the late Shri. P. K. Kunju Sahib, who envisaged revenue from the sale of lotteries as a major source of non-tax revenue for the state, at the same time providing a stable income source for the poor and the common.

Prize winners are advised to verify the winning numbers with the Kerala lottery results published in the Kerala Government Gazette and surrender the winning tickets within 30 days.
If the prize money is less than Rs 5000, the winners will be able to claim it from any lottery store in Kerala. However, if the amount is above Rs 5000, winners will have to submit their tickets to a government lottery office or a bank with an identification proof.
