Khamoshi Movie Review: Prabhu Deva, Tamannah Bhatia starrer fails to impress audience

Prabhu Deva and Tamannah Bhatia have come back again as actors for Khamoshi. No doubt the trailer and the teaser left is intriguing towards the film. But the 90 minutes movie has not made an everlasting impact on the audience.

The script of the movie could have been better, to be honest. The story is based on Surbhi which is played by Tamannah Bhatia who is a deaf and a dumb painter who also owns an estate in a secluded locale in London. Dev is played by Prabhu Deva, a man who is been persuaded by his father to acquire the position of Surbhi as the owner of the estate because it rightfully belongs to him.

Dev’s mother left him and his father (Vikram Bhatt), adopted Surbhi and left her with so much wealth. But Dev and his father aren’t the only two people eager to get Surbhi out of the way between them and the estate. Mr. and Mrs. Desai (played by Sanjay Suri and Bhumika Chawla respectively) are also eyeing the estate. Apparently, although not clear, Mr. Desai has spent all his life to bring up the estate, which is the current subject of conflict, so he doesn’t want Surbhi to donate away so much wealth to charity.

Both Tamannah and Prabhu Deva do some justice to their characters. While Tamannah is not very convincing as a deaf and dumb individual as she can literally sniff out people from miles away (but apparently can’t smell the bloodbath that took place in the house). Prabhu Deva’s conflicted character, Dev, is in constant turmoil. Considering the fact that his character is schizophrenic, Prabhu Deva does manage to bring out the necessary contradiction to his character. However, my biggest concern is not even with the flaws in their characterization.

The film could have literally been completed in 15 minutes but Toleti wanted to make it look like a thriller with predictable twists so he put us through so much misery. It is literally painful (not in a poignant way) to watch Prabhu Deva chase Tamannah only to let her escape in front of his eyes. Probably he was going for the whole ‘play with your prey’ kind of vibe by doing it. But stretching it for almost 90 mins is not fun for anyone.

A question that arises is that what was Sanjay Suri and Bhumika Chawla doing in the film that too just for merely 2 scenes.

The only good thing about the movie was Prabhu Deva’s dancing.
