A new Congress interim chief is set to be announced when the party’s Working Committee meet tomorrow, August 10, according to the sources.
59-year-old former minister Mukul Wasnik is seen as the frontrunner for the post of Congress interim chief when the party’s Working Committee today, August 10.
Son of veteran Congress Leader and three-time MP Balkrishna Wasnik, Mukul became the youngest Member of Parliament at age of 25 in 1984. He was National President of National Students Union of India during 1984-1986 and President of Indian Youth Congress during 1988-1990.
Wasnik has worked in the Congress governments of PV Narasimha Rao and Manmohan Singh. He has also worked as general secretary for Sonia Gandhi
Wasnik represented the Ramtek constituency of Maharashtra in 2009.
Earlier Wasnik has represented Buldhana (Lok Sabha constituency) of Maharashtra during 12th Lok Sabha from 1998-1999, 10th Lok Sabha from 1991-1996 and 8th Lok Sabha during 1984-1989.
