Kochi doctor prescribes alcohol to patient along with peanuts to treat ‘withdrawal’ syndrome

The doctor however in his defence states he did that just for fun

Thiruvananthapuram: A doctor has gained a lot of highlight after he suggested a prescription for liquor to a patient. As the matter the news did a lot of rounds on social media, the Excise directed the police to charge a case against Dr M D Renjith in Paravoor, Kochi.

The doctor however in his defence states he did that just for fun.

Dr Renjith, who is an Ayurveda doctor, gave the prescription soon after the chief minister stated that alcohol addicts can be provided liquor if they have a prescription.

The doctor gave the prescription to a 48-year old patient named Purushothaman instructing to consume alcohol with roasted peanuts in the evening for treating alcohol withdrawal syndrome. When the prescription was sent to his friends, it was widely circulated and went viral shortly.

With this, the excise department started investigating the incident. The doctor said during the interrogation that he gave the prescription as joke only. He added that no such patient visited him and he did not give anyone such a prescription.
