Kolkata: After the death of a coronavirus-positive patient, authorities halted the admission in the male and female medicine wards of Kolkata Medical College and Hospital on Tuesday, April 14, 2020.

According to hospital sources, the 62-year-old female patient was admitted to Charnock Hospital earlier due to kidney disease.

After the hospital was temporarily closed following the death of a Covid-19 patient after dialysis, she was transferred to the KMCH ward after her initial examination at the emergency ward on Sunday night.

Later, she was transferred to the Covid-19 patient’s isolation ward and died on Monday night. After her death, both the male and female wards stopped the patient’s admission, and three graduate students underwent isolation quarantine.

The source said that more doctors and health workers may be quarantined. The gynecology department of KMCH has closed since Monday after a patient and a health worker tested positive for the viral infection.

On Sunday, the male wards of the RG Kar Medical College and the hospital were closed within 72 hours after two patients tested positive for a coronavirus infection, and one of the patients died before the test results were obtained.

As many as 22 doctors, nurses and health workers involved in treating two patients were isolated. Earlier, 79 doctors, nurses and other health workers of NRS Medical College and Hospital were put on quarantine after a young patient who died in the male medicine ward found coronavirus positive.

The ward was also closed due to fumigation. Swab samples from at least 70 health workers in the NRS were found to be negative for coronavirus infection. Now remaining nine test results awaited.
