The nationwide tally of confirmed Covid-19 cases crossed the 2-lakh mark with almost one lakh people testing positive for the dreaded virus infection in the last 15 days. Cases jumped by 8,909 over 24 hours in one of the highest single-day spikes, taking the tally to 207,615, the health ministry said.

India is now the seventh-worst hit nation by the COVID-19 pandemic after the US, Brazil, Russia, the UK, Spain and Italy, according to the WHO’s coronavirus tracker.

Cyclone Nisarga made its landfall in Raigad near Alibaug in Maharashtra on Wednesday. There was heavy to moderate rainfall in areas across the state. Gusty winds uprooted trees and blew away the tin rooftops in few areas of the state.  According to the latest ANI update, two deaths were reported due to the cyclone in Pune district, while three people have been injured. Two animals were also killed due to an electric shock in Mulshi tehsil.

Gujarat Congress MLAs resign

Ahead of Rajya Sabha elections on June 19, the Congress today suffered a jolt in Gujarat after at least two of its MLAs resigned and a third one is said to be on the way out. The development can turn the Rajya Sabha elections into a close contest this time too.
