In a shocking incident, a retired sub-inspector of Government Railway Police (GRP) (50) from Assam, who was stranded in Ferozepur due to the curfew, was allegedly raped by two unidentified men at a shelter on May 1.

As per reports, the woman was bound for Mata Vaishno Devi shrine in Jammu.

In her complaint to the police, the survivor said that she had got her husband’s job in GRP on compassionate grounds after his death and had retired as an SI. GRP arranged for her stay at a shelter.

The police has registered a case of rape on Monday and the probe into the matter is underway.

For the uninitiated, the nation is currently witnessing lockdown 3.0 to fight COVID-19 pandemic. In Punjab, 15 new coronavirus cases, taking the state’s case tally to 1,247.

Muktsar reported 15 new cases of the deadly disease, taking the total in the district to 64.

The first special train carrying 1,188 migrant workers stranded in Punjab is set to leave Jalandhar for Daltonganj in Jharkhand. Migrants across India have been left without work amid the lockdown to curb the spread of coronavirus.
