Thiruvananthapuram: The local residents of Poonthura are violating the lockdown and has gathered for the protest as the lockdown regulation were intensified due to coronavirus transmission.

It is reported that the coastal folk blocked the health workers who arrived for medical examination. Hundreds of people gathered without wearing masks. It is said that out of the 500 samples collected in Poonthura, 115 were confirmed with coronavirus and the strict lockdown has been imposed.

The utter confusion has given rise to panic.

These coastal folk have doubts about what is going on and authorities have not been able to convincingly reassure them.

The locals protested alleging that the police do not allow them go out for buying essentials and are not delivering things at their households. As the area is densely populated, people happened to go out in large numbers. With this, the police had to send them back home, the locals complained.

A fish vendor in Paruthikkuzhi near Poonthura was first diagnosed with COVID-19. He used to engage in wholesale trade by delivering fish from Kanyakumari. 26 people in Poonthura and 2 in Paruthikkuzhi who had contact with him also tested positive for the disease later.
