When is Lohri 2021

The festival of Lohri will be celebrated on Wednesday, January 13 in 2021. Lohri is also known as Lal Loi. ‘Lal Loi’ is a Sindhi name of this festival.

Makar Sankranti will be observed on Thursday, January 14, 2021.

Why is the festival of Lohri celebrated?

On the basis of Puranas, it is celebrated every year in the honor of the sacrifice of Sati. According to the story, Prajapati Daksh had disdained his daughter Sati’s husband Mahadev Shiva by not calling him to Yagya. Then Sati devoted herself to the fire.

That’s why, as repentance, Lohri is celebrated every year to mark this occasion. This is why the married daughter of the house is given gifts on this day and is invited for food.

There is also a historical narrative behind Lohri known as Dullah Bhatti. This story belonged to Akbar’s reign in those days Dullah Bhatti was the ruler of Punjab province, called the hero of Punjab. In those days there was a place called Sandalbar, which is now part of Pakistan. In there, was a market for girls where people use to buy girls. Dullah Bhatti then protested against this and honored the girls by getting married to them. The day of this victory is sung in Lohri songs and Dullah Bhatti is remembered on this day.

The festival of Lohri is celebrated with huge joy in Punjab province due to these mythological and historical reasons.
