Lok Sabha 2019: Rajasthan CM’s son Vaibhav Gehlot likely to contest from Jodhpur or Jalore constituency

Jaipur: Chief minister Ashok Gehlot’s son Vaibhav Gehlot could make his electoral debut and contest from Jodhpur or Jalore-Sirohi Lok Sabha constituency, reports suggested on Thursday.

Earlier, while addressing a gathering in Jalore last week, the Chief Minister had raised the speculations when he said that he had wanted to launch his son from Jalore-Sirohi Lok Sabha seat for a while but the party leadership has to take the final call.

Vaibhav has a long association with the Congress party, during the 2009 Lok Sabha elections too, reports surfaced that Vaibhav could contest from the Sawai Madhopur constituency. Considering the Congress stronghold in the Jodhpur Lok Sabha seat, it is seen as an alternative seat for CM Gehlot’s son. The grand old party had won 8 Legislative Assembly seats that fall in the Jodhpur region, while BJP had won just two.

In the recently concluded Assembly Elections, The party had won 99 seats and had come to the power with their pre-poll alliance partners. Congress currently has 100 seats in the Assembly after the win at Ramgarh bypolls.

Lok Sabha elections in Rajasthan will take place across two phases, with 13 constituencies going to polls in Phase IV on April 29, elections in 12 other constituencies will take place on May 6.
