Ahmedabad: Gujarat president of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) Jayant Patel on Monday said that he has suggested the party high command to ask party general secretary Shankersinh Vaghela for contesting against BJP president Amit Shah from Gandhinagar Lok Sabha seat, according to a UNI report.

The Congress party has reportedly no big names in their kitty to put up against Shah, it is believed that Shankar Singh Vaghela’ could be put to contest. However, Vaghela has already said earlier that he does not want to contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Jayant has said that if the alliance with Congress does not get finalised then the party will contest the elections in all the 26 Lok Sabha seats in Gujarat.

Vaghela was the first BJP leader to win from Gandhinagar constituency, a feat he 1989. Later, Vaghela had left for Gandhinagar seat for senior BJP leader LK Advani. Since then the BJP has occupied this seat.

After Advani, Amit Shah is going to contest from this constituency. Political analysts believe that Gandhinagar seat can already be considered won by Amit Shah due to Advani’ legacy of winning here in every Lok Sabha elections.
