New Delhi: With elections almost 2 weeks away and the last date of nomination for First Phase closed on Tuesday, reports suggest that this time in the Lok Sabha elections only one member from Lalu Prasad Yadav’s family will contest polls.

Misa Bharti, eldest daughter of Lalu and Rabri Devi might contest elections from Pataliputra constituency on the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) ticket.

In the 2014 Lok Sabha Elections, Misa had unsuccessfully contested from the Pataliputra constituency, where she lost out to Ram Kripal Yadav. Currently, she is a Rajya Sabha member. Since the formation days of RJD’s in 1997, this is for the first time that neither Lalu or Rabari Devi would contest the Lok Sabha Elections.

While Lalu Yadav is debarred from contesting elections after his conviction in fodder scam cases, Rabri had earlier expressed her unwillingness to contest the general polls, following the debacle in 2014 from Saran seat. Reports reveal that father-in-law of Lalu’s elder son Tej Pratap Yadav, Chandrika Rai, might contest Saran seat.

The involved constituencies of Saran and Pataliputra will go for elections in the fifth (May 6) and the seventh phase (May 19), hence the final decision might take few more days.

The Lok Sabha elections in Bihar will take place across seven phases, with four constituencies to go for elections in the first phase on April 11, as announced by the Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora on March 10. The results are slated to be announced on May 23.

Bihar has a total of 40 Lok Sabha constituencies.
