Lok Sabha elections 2019: Mullapally, Sadiqali to oversee UDF’ election committees in Wayanad

Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president Mullapally Ramachandran and Muslim League Malappuram district head Sadiqali Shihab Thangal will head the United Democratic Front (UDF) election committee in Wayanad, one of the two Lok Sabha seats from where Congress president Rahul Gandhi is set to contest the upcoming polls.

Mullapally Ramachandran will be head the election committee, while Sadiqali will be the general convenor. The three convenors for the committee will be DCC chiefs T Siddhique, VV Prakash and AC Balakrishnan. The central election committee is headed by KPCC general secretary N Subramanian.

The election campaign for Wayanad will be looked over by AICC general secretaries Mukul Wasnik, KC Venugopal and Oommen Chandy along with Ramesh Chennithala, who is the leader of opposition in the Kerala legislative assembly.

Wayanad has become a hotbed of politics after Congress on Sunday, March 31 announced candidature of party chief Rahul Gandhi for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. A day later, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) released the name of its candidate against the Amethi Member of Parliament (MP).

Thushar Vellappally, son of Bharat Dharma Jana Sena (BDJS) founder is set contest polls in Wayanad against the Congress chief.

Though BDJS doesn’t have much presence in the ground, along with allies it comes as a third front in the Kerala politics.The state over the years have been ruled by either the Left or the Congress party.
