The small landlocked country of Luxembourg is set to become the first in the world to make all its public transport free.

Xavier Bettel, who was sworn in on Wednesday as the Prime Minister of the country for the second term in succession has decided to remove the fares from trains, buses and other means of public transport.

Besides wiping off charges for travel, the government is also thinking about legalizing cannabis. The country which has been suffering from the problem of traffic congestion for years now have a presence of at least 500,000 people during peak working hours.

Earlier, the government of the country had made the transport for everyone under the age of 20 free. From 2020 all tickets are set to be scrapped off.

Bettel’s Democratic party will form the government in coalition with Socialist Workers’ party and the Greens.
