Ahead of Bollywood actress Kareena Kapoor Khan’s visit to Bhopal on December 2, several activists of the city have claimed to protest against the scheduled event of the actress. Kareena and actor Tiger Shroff will participate in a half marathon which is overlapping with the 34th anniversary of Bhopal Gas tragedy.
Activists associated with the Bhopal Gas tragedy victims have asked state government to reschedule the event and threatened to protest.
During 2017 half marathon, organisers faced the heat of the activists over the event and similarly, in 2018, a half marathon is scheduled to take place which is coinciding with Bhopal gas tragedy anniversary. Disaster, which took place on the night of December 2-3 1984, killed thousands and had an impact for many decades.
Speaking on the lines of the event, Bhopal Group for Information and Action (BGIA) member Rachna Dhingra told a newspaper that, “Last year survivors of the Bhopal disaster had laid themselves down in the path of the runners to oppose the event that they equated to dancing on the graves of their dear departed. In amping up the song and dance this year the organisers are showing deliberate indifference to the ongoing death and suffering caused by the disaster on the same day 34-years-ago.”
