Madhya Pradesh: Cabinet minister Rustam Singh rebels against BJP over ticket distribution

Ahead of Madhya Pradesh election, there is a big fight between sitting MLAs and several sitting MPs of BJP in the state over ticket distribution. Cabinet Minister Rustam Singh, who recently made the remarks against BJP and Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, has created an embarrassment for the party.

Rustam Singh stated that “It was noticed that Gurjars do not listen to anyone and sometimes go against the  ‘stream’ in order to show themselves ‘different. But one should remember that going against me means to elect a Brahmin MLA”.

Morena constituency is expected to witness an interesting contest as Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) has fielded a Brahmin face, Balbir Dandotia and party holds a huge amount of support.

According to sources, Anoop Mishra Member of Parliament from Morena is likely to get a ticket from Morena assembly on BJP’s platform, where Rustam Singh is sitting MLA. During 2013 assembly polls, Rustam Singh had won assembly election by a thin margin of 1748 votes against Bahujan Samaj Party’s candidate. Recently in BJP’s survey of Madhya Pradesh, it was pointed out that Singh’s performance was not satisfactory in his respective constituency, following that BJP is planning to field a Brahmin face against Dandotia, who is contesting under the banner of BSP in 2018 assembly polls.

To overcome the anti-incumbency and other regional factors, Anoop Mishra, who comes from a Brahmin background, holds a considerable amount of support in Morena region and served as the cabinet minister, could be a correct pick for BJP, sources stated.

Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan along with Union Minister Narendra Singh Tomar and State BJP President Rakesh Singh has already finalized 170 candidates name and excluded around 60 sitting MLAs for the electoral battle of state, sources claimed. Candidates list is expected on November 1.  Madhya Pradesh polls are scheduled for November 28 and results will be declared on December 11.
