Bhopal: A young IAS officer, who is also a doctor, played a key role in the fight against coronavirus in the Madhya Pradesh government, tested positive for COVID-19. This positive case caused the government to scramble to find people who might be contacted.

The list may include some of the most senior bureaucrats in the state. Sources said that by Friday evening, about 120 health department staff and officials had been sampled for COVID-19 testing. The report is expected by Saturday.

The 2011 batch officer was on duty till Wednesday and participated in all meetings of the COVID-19 team.

As per the source, he had direct contact with at least 126 employees of the Health directorate. Directorate officials were told not to come office on Thursday night.

The officer attended several meetings at the highest level. The official participated in several meetings at the highest level. According to reports, he has been sick for some time, and his first corona test was positive on Thursday night.

The officer was taken to a private hospital. He was one of 19 IAS officials deployed to resolve the corona crisis in the state, and they interacted frequently. The source said that he had worked in the medicine and logistics group and would also interact with dozens of vendors and pharmaceutical suppliers.

The officer’s family has been in isolation at home and his colony in Trilanga announced a containment zone. Moreover, everyone in his society is mandatorily quarantined for 14 days.

Those who came in contact with him will also be quarantined and, if needed will be tested for COVID-19. Some of them are already in self-isolation. Bhopal Municipal Corporation has conducted large-scale disinfection drive in all health department buildings and locations where officials have been reported.

A source in the health department said that now he is stable and is expected to recover.
