Madhya Pradesh: Red Sand Boa snake worth Rs 1.25cr recovered from Rajgarh

Rajgarh:  A red sand boa snake, worth around Rs 1.25 crore, was recovered from five people. They were trying to sell it in Madhya Pradesh’s Narsinghgarh on Sunday, an official said.

All the accused, five people including three minors, have been taken into custody, the official said.

Police has issued a statement stating these rare non-poisonous snakes are used for making certain medicines, cosmetics and in black magic. They also cater to a big international market.

“An informer belonging to us overheard three persons speaking on mobile and striking a deal to sell the snake at Narsinghgarh bus stand. He alerted us.” Kailash Bhardwaj, a police officer, said.

Two of the accused- Pawan Nagar and Shyam Gurjar were grabbed along with the plastic bag that had the snake inside it.

The snake could have fetched Rs 1.25 crore, police added.

“The accused in order to save themselves told that that they had bought the snake from Sehore district in Madhya Pradesh and came to Narsinghgarh to sell it,” he said, adding that the accused have been charged under the Wildlife (Protection) Act.
