The fourteenth day of every lunar month or the day before the new moon is known as Shivratri. However, those who follow the Amavasyant calendar celebrate the festival in the Magha month. Interestingly, the date remains the same, but the names of the month differ.

Therefore, it is a Hindu festival celebrated annually in honour of the god Shiva. The name also refers to the night when Shiva performs the heavenly dance.

The Nishita Kaal puja time is between 12:06 AM to 12:55 AM on March 12. However, a devotee may perform Shiva Puja during Nishita Kaal or any/all four Prahars (a unit of time)

6:27 PM to 09:29 PM (March 11)

Prahar 2

9:29 PM (March 11) to 12:31 AM (March 12)

Prahar 3

12:31 AM to 3:32 AM (March 12)

Prahar 4

3:32 AM to 6:34 AM (March 12)
