Maharashtra: Car hits man in Pune-Mumbai expressway; 60 vehicles run over body

Kamshet police stated that the man’s body was split so bad that they collected his remains in pieces

A 47-year-old man was hit by a speeding car while he made an attempt of crossing the Pune-Mumbai expressway at Baur village near Kamshet, around 45km from here, at 8 pm on Wednesday.

The car had not stopped after the accident, the man’s body lied on the busy road for some time during which it was run over by a lot of other vehicles.

Kamshet police stated that the man’s body was split so bad that they collected his remains in pieces.

The man was identified only through a document found in his shirt pocket.

Case investigating officer Vinod Naglot told, the police rushed to the spot after receiving an emergency call, stopped traffic and removed all the body parts from the road.

“After identification, it was found that Ashok Magar, a resident of Baur village. It is not known which vehicle knocked him down first.”

“He could have used the overbridge which is located just 300 metres from the accident spot. An unidentified car heading towards Pune from Mumbai hit him first. Magar fell on the road, following which other vehicles heading towards Pune also ran over him. We found bloodstains spread over a 150-metre distance on the road”, said Vinod Naglot

The police said vehicles travelling at a high speed along the central lane of the expressway and the motorists may have failed to spot the body lying on the road in the dark. Besides, they said, motorists fear to stop on the expressway as their vehicles too could get hit by the traffic coming from behind.
