Maharashtra man walks 135 km to reach his home amidst coronavirus lockdown

Sudden lockdown leads to millions of poor migrants walking back with great difficulty

Nagpur: A person working at Ahmednagar made a walk for over 135 kilometres from Nagpur to reach his home in Saoli teshil of Chandrapur district following the travel ban due to coronavirus scare.

He was rescued by Sindewahi police some 25km from his village. Narendra Shelke is resident of village Jambh in Saoli teshil and works as a labourer at a sugar factory in Ahmednagar.

The 7-day lockdown announced by chief minister Uddhav Thackeray from Tuesday caught all the labourers off guard and hence they panicked and wanted to move to their homes.

A lot of labourers ventured to their homes leaving the man stranded, having no choice the man decided to walk by himself and reach home.

PSI Gopichand Nerkar, who rescued Shelke in Sindewahi, informed that labourers from Nagpur went to their home and taxi returned to Ahmednagar.

Shelke was left stranded in Nagpur. Having failed to find any help and nobody to give him a lift, Shelke decided to walk back home during wee hours of Wednesday.
