Ruturaj Gaikwad Named Captain of Pune Franchise: On Sunday, June 4, the Pune franchise appointed Ruturaj Gaikwad as its commander for the 2023 edition of the Maharashtra Premier League. On Sunday, the Maharashtra Premier League 2023 (MPL) received an incredible Rs 57.80 crore for six franchises. The T20 franchise league supported by the Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) received a record Rs 14.80 crore for the Pune franchise, which also won the offer for Ruturaj Gaikwad as their icon player.

The six-team tournament will begin on June 15 at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Ground, which is located on the periphery of Pune. In the franchise auction, the state received proposals from over 20 entities, according to MCA president Rohit Pawar. He also stated that the management anticipated 18 crore rupees from the sale of six teams but received more than three times that amount.

“We had set a base price of Rs 1 crore per year for three years for each of the six MPL teams, anticipating a minimum value of Rs 18 crore,” said Rohit Pawar. After the teams were auctioned today, we received a record-breaking franchise fee of Rs 57.80 crore for six teams for three years. We followed an entirely transparent process to purchase the property through an open bidding system.”

According to a statement issued by the MCA, the tournament will adhere to the IPL format and live encounters will be broadcast on DD Sports and online platforms.

Pravin Masalewale of Pune won the proposal for the Pune franchise and signed Ruturaj Gaikwad of Chennai Super Kings as its marquee player. Kedar Jadhav, a veteran batting all-rounder, will represent the Kolhapur franchise, which was purchased for Rs 11 crore by Punit Balan Group. Nashik, Sambhajnagar, Ratnagiri, and Solapur are the four remaining franchises that will compete in the first three tournament editions.
