Maharashtra: Woman in isolation ward threatened to make illegitimate relationship, accused held

The reports stated that the woman was a daily wage worker and due to the lockdown the woman returned back to her village from Mumbai, and as per the rules the woman was kept in the isolation ward for 14 days.

A woman who was living in Maharashtra’s Amravati isolation ward was harassed and was asked to make illegitimate relationship, when denied she was threatened by the accused and further said that he will not give her food.

The reports stated that the woman was a daily wage worker and due to the lockdown the woman returned back to her village from Mumbai, and as per the rules the woman was kept in the isolation ward for 14 days.

The woman was kept in the school which was turned into isolation ward.

It is reported that on Sunday, May 10, a man identified as Patil Ranjit reached the isolation ward and groped the woman. Patil forcibly tried to make physical relationship with the woman.

The woman further said that the man threatened her if she do not make physical relationship with her, she will not get the food.

After hearing all of it, the woman started shouting and people gathered and came to rescue her.

The people handed over Patil to the police. The police reportedly said that when the incident took place, Patil was in the drunk state and even abused the woman.

The police is further looking into the matter and has held the accused man.

Maharashtra continues to lead the national Covid-19 tally with over 22,000 coronavirus cases. The state has recorded 832 deaths so far while 4199 patients have recovered from the disease. Mumbai alone has reported more than 12,000 Covid-19 cases.  Thane and Pune are also among the top Covid-19 affected regions in the state.
