In a gesture underscoring the warm ties between India and the Maldives, President Mohamed Muizzu has accepted the invitation to attend Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s third swearing-in ceremony. The historic event, scheduled for Sunday, will mark another milestone in Modi’s consecutive terms as India’s Prime Minister.

The formal invitation was extended by Munu Mahawar, India’s High Commissioner to the Maldives, during a courtesy call at the President’s Office. Muizzu expressed his gratitude for the invitation and conveyed his eagerness to work closely with Prime Minister Modi to further improve bilateral relations.

This will be President Muizzu’s first official visit to India since his inauguration in November last year. Unlike his predecessors, who prioritized New Delhi, Muizzu initially visited Turkiye and China. His upcoming visit is expected to embody the strengthening of India-Maldives ties, with other regional leaders also attending as part of India’s ‘Neighbourhood First’ policy.
