11:20 AM West Bengal Chief Minister and All India Trinamool Congress Mamata Banerjee has reached the Brigade Parade grounds the venue for the rally.


The grand opposition rally is set to take place at the Brigade Parks Ground in Kolkata on January 19.

On Friday itself, Banerjee called on former prime minister and Janata Dal (Secular) national president H.D. Deve Gowda, Nationalist Congress Party supremo Sharad Pawar and Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, who have been lodged in different hotels.

While Congress president Rahul Gandhi and his mother Sonia Gandhi have given the rally a miss, they have deputed senior party functionary and leader of the party in the Lok Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge.

Top leaders like, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and Telugu Desam Party president Chandrababu Naidu, Rashtriya Janata Dal’s and leader of opposition in Bihar’s Legislative Assembly Tejashwi Yadav, Janata Dal(S) leader Deve Gowda, Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal, Karanataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy, Mallikarjun Kharge senior Congress leader confirmed their arrival for the event.

Banerjee has arranged for a tea party for her guests at 4 pm on Saturday once the rally gets over. The leaders are likely to address the media about their deliberations post tea party.

On Friday, a day ahead of the opposition rally, Congress Chief Rahul Gandhi had written to Mamata in support of the rally. He wrote, “”I extend my support to Mamata Di on this show of unity and hope that we send a powerful message of a united India together”.
