Man beaten to death in Gurugram in scuffle over drinking liquor

Gurugram, Nov 30 (IANS) A 26-year-old man identified as Hoshiyaar and hailing from Bulandshahr district in Uttar Pradesh, was allegedly beaten to death by a hotel owner identified as Sanjay Kumar and his friend Anil, in a fight over drinking liquor in Gurugram, the police said on Monday.

The incident took place on the intervening Thursday/Friday night after which Hoshiyaar was treated at the Safdarjung hospital in Delhi but died on Sunday from severe head injures. The police has filed a murder case under section 302 against the two accused Sanjay and Anil at the Sector-14 police station.

According to the police, the deceased Hoshiyaar had shifted to Gurugram nearly six months back for work.

Hoshiyaar’s elder brother, Umesh Kumar, in his police complaint said his brother used to work and stayed in a hotel in Gurugram.

“On the intervening night of November 26-27, his neighbour Pintu Singh informed him that his younger brother Hoshiyaar was mercilessly beaten by the hotel owner Sanjay and his friend Anil and was admitted to the Safdarjung hospital in a critical condition,” Kumar told the police.

“Soon after receiving the information, I visited the hospital where my brother was unconscious and undergoing treatment due to severe head injuries,” Kumar said.

The incident took place at a hotel on the road near the bus stand over drinking liquor, police said.

“The hotel owner and his friend have not been arrested yet. The accused duo and the victim had a fight over drinking liquor. After a heated argument, the accused started beating the victim after which he was critically injured and later on Sunday died during treatment,” said Investigating Officer Mukesh Kumar.

An FIR has been registered in the matter at Sector-14 police station against the duo, the official said, adding, that the police are scanning the CCTV footage of the area for evidence against the accused duo who would be arrested soon, he said.
