Mysore: A man has been held by police for making fake hand sanitizers with isopropyl alcohol at his apartment in Srirampura in Mysore. The accused has been identified as M Shiva Kumar.

The 46-Year-old man had 5,382 bottles of 100 ml, 180 litres of isopropyl alcohol, 10 litres of glycerin and 65 litres of surface cleaner. The police received the information and conducted a surprise raid and the man was held for illegally storing all the chemicals on the second floor of his apartment.

The police said that they had taken the accused to their custody and are investigating him further.

They added to it that isopropyl alcohol is highly flammable chemical and a small mistake can ruin everything.

Recently, two people have made fake sanitisers and sold them ten times more than the price of the actual product, eager to cash in on the demand in the wake of the coronavirus situation.

The duo had no licence to manufacture hand sanitizers. Central Crime Branch (CCB) police have arrested Raju (43) from Kasthurbanagar and Chandan (64) from Chamarajpet and have seized 8,500 bottles of fake sanitizers worth Rs 56 lakh.
