Martyr’s day 2024: In India, we observe two Martyr’s Days also called as Shaheed Diwas every year. One being January 30 and March 23 to honour the sacrifices made by our freedom fighters- Mahatma Gandhi, Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, Sukhdev and countless other brave Indian men who fought for the independence, welfare and glory of India.

To celebrate the Martyr’s day and Shaheed Divas- India and 15 other countries in the world celebrate this day to give respect and tribute to the courageous champions and freedom fighters.

The second martyr day is to pay tribute to Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, and Sukhdev who were executed in Lahore for their revolutionary actions against the British empire on March 23, 1931. They condemned the trio to death for conspiring to kill a British police officer, John P Saunders.

Take a look at inspirational quotes by Bhagat Singh and others on Martyr’s day here:

  • They may kill me, but they cannot kill my ideas. They can crush my body, but they will not be able to crush my spirit.
  • Merciless criticism and independent thinking are two traits of revolutionary thinking.
  • Bombs and pistols don’t make a revolution. Ideas sharpen the sword of revolution on the whetting stone.
  • If the deaf has to hear, the sound has to be very loud.
  • Labour is the real sustainer of society.
  • I am a man and all that affects humanity concerns me.
