The wait is almost over. After several spy shots and heaps of speculation, Maruti is all set to reveal the new DZire on April 24 with the launch scheduled for next month. The car makes its debut after the Swift bowed in at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show, but it will be launched in India first.

We’ve already seen the car’s new design and a big change expected is the increase in dimensions. In fact, the press release stated that the new car has been “designed to leave a lasting impression with its rich sculpted side body and enhanced proportions.” Long story short, the DZire may no longer be a sub-4 metre sedan.

Speculation aside, the new DZire will come equipped with features like projector headlights and daytime-running LEDs, along with a more premium interior. Features on offer will include automatic climate control, black-beige interior upholstery and the SmartPlay infotainment system that will come with navigation, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.

Fun Fact: With the Ciaz now retailed from NEXA, the DZire will now be the only sedan sold through Maruti Suzuki dealerships.

Powertrain options, though, are likely to be carried forward as is. The 1.2-litre petrol engine and 1.3-litre diesel will be offered. Rumour mills suggest that the 1.2 petrol could swap its 4-speed torque-converter automatic transmission for a CVT, like we’ve seen in the Baleno.

Prices for the current DZire range between Rs 5.35-8.57 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The outgoing model is already available for fleet operators as the DZire Tour, with prices locked at Rs 5.24 lakh and Rs 5.99 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) for the petrol and diesel respectively. Expect the new DZire to command a price premium. Rivals to the car include the all-new Tata Tigor and the recently updated Hyundai Xcent. It also faces the likes of the Tata Zest, Honda Amaze and VW Ameo
