‘Matching unidentified body’s fingerprints with Aadhaar biometrics not possible’

New Delhi, Nov 12 (IANS) The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) on Monday told the Delhi High Court that matching the fingerprints of an unidentified body with the Aadhaar database was not possible.

The UIDAI told the bench of Chief Justice Rajendra Menon and Justice V. Kameswar Rao that Aadhaar number was required for matching of biometrics.

The court was hearing a plea filed by lawyer and social activist Amit Sahni.

Sahni, in his plea, has sought a direction for the use of Aadhaar biometrics to identify the unidentified dead bodies.

The court asked the UIDAI to file a detailed response explaining why it was not possible to match the fingerprints of bodies with the Aadhaar database and also asked National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) to file a response on the plea.

The court slated the matter for further hearing on February 5 next year.
