MI Jr tournament: Shardashram Girls High School start with win

Mumbai, Feb 5 (IANS) Shardashram Vidyamandir Girls High School, Dadar, started their Mumbai Indians Junior Cricket Tournament campaign with a crushing 81-run victory over Sri Ma Vidyalaya, Thane, in the opening match of the Under 16 Girls category at the Worli Sports Club on Wednesday.

Jetsun Chee (36) and Shraddha Shetty (35) played crucial knocks to help Shardashram score 178/6. Disha Chandak’s three crucial wickets played a pivotal role to help her team wrap up Sri Ma Vidyalaya’s innings for a paltry 97 in 21.1 overs. Disha was declared ‘Player of the Match’ for her superb performance.

In another match in the girls category, Smt. Sulochanadevi Singhania School defeated Seven Square Academy, Mira Road, by eight wickets in a low scoring affair. Ishwari Gaikwad starred in the win by bagging 5 wickets and scoring 20 runs. She grabbed the ‘Player of the Match’ title for her all-round performance.

In the boys Under 14 category, Priyanshu Pandey bowled a spectacular spell to set up a 7-wicket win for St. Aloysius High School, Nalasopara. Pandey took six wickets for 11 runs in 7.5 overs which included a maiden over, to fashion the downfall of the opponent – Amulakh Amichand Bimji Vividhlakshi Vidyalaya – at Cross Maidan. St. Aloysius batsmen chased down the 98-run target with ease in 11.1 overs.

Aryan Parte top scored with 29 while Anuj Kartwe stayed till the end at the crease to hit an unbeaten 27 to guide his team home. Pandey won the ‘Player of the Match’ title in this Under 14 category match.

In another boys match, Raza Mirza struck a fluent ton to star in an emphatic 117-run win for Parle Tilak Vidyalaya English Medium School over St. Xavier’s High School. ‘Player of the Match’ Mirza punished the St. Xavier’s bowlers to score 136 runs off 130 balls as his team scored 276/6 in their stipulated 40 overs. In response, St. Xavier’s batsmen were never really in the chase and their side folded up for 99 runs in 26 overs.

At the adjacent pitch, Sarvesh Yadav also struck a blazing hundred to lead Kanchan High School, Nalasopara, to a massive 283 runs win over Don Bosco International School, Matunga.

Yadav walked home with the ‘Player of the Match’ title for scoring 101 off 69 balls as his team put up a mammoth score of 328/5 on the board in 40 overs. Don Bosco hardly put up a fight and capitulated for 45 in 18.5 overs against a clinical bowling performance.
