Mumbai, Feb 13 (IANS) Adwait Rane shone with the ball on the inaugural day of the under-16 boys category in the ongoing Mumbai Indians Junior Cricket Tournament.

The Don Bosco High School, Matunga bowler took a five-wicket haul to set up an easy nine-wicket win for his school over Seven Square Academy, Mira Road at Young Zoroastrian, Azad Maidan on Thursday.

Rane’s devastating spell was too hot to handle for the Seven Square batsmen who looked shaky from the start. The team eventually folded up for 51 runs in 18.3 overs.

Chasing a low score was never going to be a problem for the much-fancied Don Bosco batting line-up and they did it with ease by reaching 55 in just 5.2 overs after losing one wicket, with Naman Jhawar top-scoring with 20. Aniket Singh remained unbeaten on 14. Rane walked away with ‘Player of the Match’ title.

In another match of the same category, Shashvat Kapoor came out all guns blazing to finish with 106 runs of just 71 balls and guide V.K. Krishna Menon Academy to a mammoth 249 runs victory over Saraswati Vidyalaya, Thane at the RTO pitch.

Kapoor’s blitzkrieg helped V.K. Krishna to amass 333/5 in the stipulated 40 overs. Sumit Singh also chipped in with 49 runs. Later, Player of the Match, Satyam Yadav’s five-wicket haul played a key role in bundling out Saraswati Vidyalaya batting line-up for a mere 84 runs in 31.1 overs.

At Shivaji Park, in the u-14 boys category, Bombay Scottish’s Aarav Desai took an eight-wicket haul to star in a 293-run victory for Bombay Scottish School, Mahim over St. Joseph’s High School, Panvel.

Desai bowled his team to victory as the St. Joseph’s batsmen couldn’t handle the pressure of chasing a stiff target of 340 and were bowled out for paltry 46 in 11.2 overs.

Earlier, Bombay Scottish batsmen made 339/3 in 33 overs with Aarnav Mhambrey scoring 67 and Anirudh Shelke contributing 35.

The bowler-dominated day reflected in the U-16 Girls category as well. Sarah Samir’s hat-trick handed Shardashram Vidyamandir, Dadar a 9-wicket win over St. Anne’s High School, Vasai.

Meanwhile, Adwita Gaonkar of St. Francis Xavier High School, Kanjumarg guided her team to victory over Anjuman-I-Islam Mustafa Fakih High School, Turbhe with a clinical five-wicket haul.
