Mizoram: EC announces Village polls in Chakma and Lai areas

There are 469 village council seats in LADC area of which 95 seats are reserved for women.

Election Department of Mizoram on Monday announced elections of village councils in Chakma Autonomous District Council (CADC) and by-polls of a village council in Lai Autonomous District Council (LADC) in south Mizoram’s Lawngtlai district.

A statement issued by the state election commission states, the date of polling for 88 village councils in Chakma council area and Council Veng village council in Lai area is fixed to be held on March 13.

The statement states, “The last date to file nomination papers was fixed on 24 February, the last date to withdraw candidature was scheduled on February 26.”

Scrutiny of nomination papers will be undertaken on February 25 February.

Counting of voters for both the polls will be held on March 13 as soon as polling is over.

According to the latest roll published on February 14, there are 32,213 electorates, including 16,268 males and 15,945 female voters in CADC.

There are 469 village council seats in LADC area of which 95 seats are reserved for women.

Of the 12 seats in CADC village council by-election, one is reserved for a woman.

It also needs to be mentioned here that on Jan 24, in the wake of an agreement to rehabilitate 34,000 Reang tribals living in northern Tripura after fleeing Mizoram 23 years ago due to ethnic unrest the names of around 11,000 voters among these refugees would be deleted from the electoral list in Mizoram, official sources said on Friday.
