Modi lying over OROP: Ex-Servicemen

Jaipur, Dec 3 (IANS) A group of retired Army officials on Monday accused the Modi government of spreading lies over the One Rank One Pension (OROP) issue.

Addressing the media, Major General Satbir Singh, Chairman of the Indian Ex-Servicemen Movement and advisor to the United Front of Ex-Servicemen, along with Randeep Singh Surjewala, the Congress spokesperson, accused Modi of lying.

“While pension of Army men has been increased, the issues pertaining to OROP are still pending,” he said.

“Modi has been lying in his election speeches about fulfilling all the demands on OROP. However, the grave reality is that the soldiers are still fighting for their rights,” he said.

He said the Manmohan Singh government had on February 17, 2014 promised to bring in OROP but the Modi government was yet to fulfil this promise.

The press conference was also addressed by retired Group Captain V.K. Gandhi who accused the Modi government of politicizing the surgical strike on terrorist camps in Pakistan and thus disrespecting the Indian Army.

Surgical strikes have been happening earlier too “but the Modi government is politicizing this”, he said.
