Mohali: After a matrimonial site failed to find a suitable match for a doctor in Mohali, a District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum ordered the wedding portal to refund the victim Rs 50,000 along with a 9 per cent interest rate and a compensation of Rs 12,000.

Reportedly, the victim Surinder Pal Singh Chahal had published an advertisement in a newspaper seeking a bridegroom for his daughter in 2017, following which a matrimonial site which goes by the name ‘Wedding Wishes’ contacted Chahal promising a match for his daughter who is a doctor in the Haryana Civil Medical Services.

Chahal then registered at the matrimonial site with the latter charging Chahal Rs 50,000 as a registration fee. The preference listed included that her to be groom should be a doctor, belonging to a Jatt family from the tricity.

The agency promised that it will come up with suitable profiles in nine months.

The site later uploaded 18 profiles, however, the woman’s family claims that not a single bridegroom profile matched the requirements sent by the girl. Chahal then demanded for a refund along with the interest.

But the agency refused to refund the money arguing the profiles were uploaded according to the requirements filled in the form.
