Mohammad Rafi is the legendary singer of the Indian music industry.  On 31st July 1980, the singer passed away due to a heart attack shortly after recording a song for the film Aas Paas.

Rafi Saab, the man with mesmerising voice, started his singing career in early 1942 with Shyam Sunder. In 1944, he grabbed an opportunity to sing in a Hindi film as a chorus of noted music composer Naushad Ali. Due to his magical voice, Rafi became a favourite of Ali and sung innumerable hit songs for him.

Rafi songs like Kya Hua Tera Wada, Likhe Jo Khat Tujhe, Babul Ki Duayen Leti Ja, and others still manage to evoke various kinds of emotions in people when they hear them. Mohammed Rafi was not just a singer, but he could touch every heart with his soulful music. The legendary sang in many languages which include Assamese, Konkani, Bhojpuri, English, Persian, Dutch, Spanish, Telugu, Maithili, Urdu, Gujarati, Punjabi, Marathi, Bengali, etc.

The singer has also sung for Kishore Kumar. Rafi’s voice was used for the characters played by Kishore Kumar, who has proven his expertise as an actor too, in the movies Shararat (1956) and Ragini (1958). Rafi has also demonstrated his skills as an actor in the movies Laila Majnu and Jugnu. Both the movies Laila Majnu and Jugnu. Both the movies were financially successful.

The recipient of six Filmfare Awards and one National Film Award as well as the Padma Shri award by the Government of India in 1967, the stalwart singer who gave his voices to immortal compositions by Naushad, S D Burman, Shankar-Jaikishan and O. P. Nayyar among others and became an inspiration for later singers Sonu Nigam, Mahendra Kapoor, Shabbir Kumar, Mohammed Aziz, and Udit Narayan.
