Mother, daughter burned to death in Bengal, two arrested

Kolkata: Last week, a mother and daughter were burned to death at the bank of a river in Haldia in West Bengal’s East Midnapore. Police have arrested two men for the murder of mother, daughter.

From the autopsy report, it came out that the Mother Rama Dey (40) and daughter Riya (19) were burnt alive after they were sedated.

The investigation showed that the teenager was in a relationship with one of the accused, Saddam Hossain (26). The police said that Riya was allegedly forcing Saddam to marry her.

Saddam spiked the food of mother, daughter as he invited them to his house, police said and added to it that he allegedly set them on fire while they were unconscious.

The police arrested Saddam and his aide Manjur Alam Malik on Sunday.

Both the accused are in custody and police is interrogating them for further information. The police suspect the involvement of other accomplices in the crime.

On the morning of February 18, locals spotted two burning bodies on the banks of Jhikurkhali River and alerted the police. The bodies found were beyond recognition, police said.
