Recently, the Mumbai Police arrested three Ola Cab Drivers on charges of cheating. These drivers took advantage of a technical glitch of the Ola app and increased the distance from the scheduled destination charging double fare from the passengers.

The Mumbai Crime Branch has arrested three cab drivers so far. According to cab drivers, they had detected a technical glitch in the app and took advantage of it. At least 40 cab drivers have committed such a swindle.

During a technical glitch, in the driver’s app, when the vehicle was under a bridge or flyover, in GPS it was seen moving over the bridge. In the meantime, the driver would lock the app for a distance until it was under the bridge and restart the app after crossing the bridge, which caused the GPS to find a new way to reroute, and with this, the fare also increased.

It was found that the drivers had chosen the route from Mumbai Airport to Panvel for cheating as this route has the most bridges and flyovers. During the investigation, the police said that the passengers of the fraud had to pay double the fare prescribed.

While a passenger going to Panvel had to pay Rs 610 but paid Rs 1240. When passengers complained to the driver, they asked people to talk to customer care. Some passengers did not even complain about this and the drivers continued to execute the fraud. In some cases, fines were also imposed on the drivers but this did not make much difference.

In this case, the Mumbai police summoned the senior officer of Ola for questioning and asked them what steps the company would take to avoid such incidents in the future. Meanwhile, the Mumbai police is doing an investigation into this matter and are trying to find out how to remove technical glitches.
