In a tragic incident, a 25-year-old MBA graduate killed himself on June 27 in his flat at Saki Vihar Road because he was taunted at the workplace over his sexuality.
As per the reports, deceased identified as Aniket Patil, who hailed from Bhusawal, was living in Shrushti Complex at Saki Vihar Road. Patil, an engineer and MBA professional, was selected by a reputable men’s grooming product manufacturer through a campus interview in 2018.
A post-mortem report revealed the preliminary cause of death. Following the post-mortem, the Powai police registered an accidental death case in the matter. His family then took the body back to their hometown for the last rites.

However, a few days after the cremation, the family brought his suitcase and other belongings back to Jalgaon where they found an envelope in which Patil had left a suicide note. In it, he revealed that he was being harassed at work for being gay. Taking the note to the police, Aniket’s father lodged a complaint with Powai police.
“There was a three-page note in which he narrated his ordeal. He stated clearly that he was taunted and teased over his sexuality. His colleagues called him gay. Three days before committing suicide, Aniket told his mother he was going to quit his job,” the FIR stated, as quoted in a report of Mumbai Mirror.
Mumbai Police have registered a case of abetment of suicide against four people for abetting the suicide of their colleague by taunting him as ‘gay’ for not having a girlfriend and mocking him for being vegetarian and a teetotaller.
