The Election Commission has ordered immediate removal of SP and DM of Munger. One person was killed and over two dozen people, including security personnel, were injured in firing and stone-pelting during the immersion of Durga idols in Bihar’s Munger, days before the first phase of the Assembly poll in the state, including in the district.

Meanwhile, outrageous crowd gate crashed the SP office on Thursday sabotaging the SDO residence, according to a Hindi news daily, Kashish Bihar. Two police vehicles were set ablaze by the crowd in the district.

An 18-year-old man was killed while several others were injured in a firing incident following a clash between the police and people during the Durga idol immersion in Bihar’s Munger district on Monday evening.

During Durga puja immersion, some anti-social elements resorted to stone-pelting which left 20 policemen injured. After this someone from the crowd fired, leading to one death. The situation is under control,” said Lipi Singh, Superintendent of Police, Munger, as quoted by NDTV.

Amidst the politically charged atmosphere of the ongoing Bihar elections, many opposition leaders called for strict action against SP Lipi Singh. Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Tejashwi Yadav went as far as to compare Singh with General Dyer, a British officer who was responsible for the Jallianwala Bagh massacre. Multiple conflicting videos featuring the police officials using undue force upon the devotees and the locals blaming officials are doing the rounds on social media.
