New Delhi, Dec 14 (IANS) As Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired the maiden meeting of National Ganga Council in Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh on Friday, #NamamiGange trended on Twitter, with users praising the clean-Ganga efforts.

The hashtag got 29.4K tweets.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath wrote on @myogiadityanath: “The day is not far when Ma Ganga will be clean from Gangotri till the Bay of Bengal. Whether it is Kashi, or Prayag, or Kanpur, the water of Ganga will be fit for offering to gods.

The dream of every Indian will be fulfilled through “Namami Gange’ project.

The post got 321 retweets and 1.5K likes.

One user posted a clipping of the holy river and wrote: “Here’s the view of picture-perfect Varanasi Ghats. Attempts are being made not just to make the Ganga clean but to bring back its lost glory.”

One user had a philosophical take: “The waves belong to the Ganges, not the Ganges to the waves. A man cannot realise God unless he gets rid of all such egotistic ideas as ‘I am such an important man’ or ‘I am so and so’. Level the mound of ‘I’ to the ground by dissolving it in tears of devotion.”
