Nandamuri Balakrishna Personal Life

In 1982, at the age of 22 years, Balakrishna wed Vasundhara Devi. They have two daughters, Brahmani and Tejaswini, and a son, Taraka Rama Mokshagna Teja. Brahmani married her cousin, Nara Lokesh, the son of N. Chandrababu Naidu, president of the TDP and chief minister of Andhra Pradesh.

Controversies

On June 3, 2004, at 8:50 p.m., Balakrishna was implicated in a shootout controversy that occurred at his home in Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad. According to reports, he discharged shots at the producer Bellamkonda Suresh and his associate Satyanarayana Chowdhary. Both of the injured were subsequently admitted to the Apollo hospital. Balakrishna allegedly shot Bellamkonda in self-defence after the producer attacked him with a “paper knife.” According to the Human Rights Forum (HRF), the circumstances surrounding the case’s resolution sparked controversy. The HRF questioned the veracity of the individuals who managed the case, as well as the circumstances under which Balakrishna was shielded from police by being granted refuge in a Care Hospital without justification.

The two victims initially told the magistrate that Balakrishna had fired shots at them, but they subsequently recanted their statements. Later, on June 6, Balakrishna was apprehended and brought before the Fifth Metropolitan Magistrate. The wife of Balakrishna, Vasundhara Devi, was also served with a show cause notice because the weapon used was registered to her and she could not provide adequate protection for it. Later, Balakrishna was granted parole under the conditions that he not leave Hyderabad without court permission and that he turn over his passport.
