Has anyone ever thought that there would be a special day to celebrate the two-piece bathing suit invention? Well, it’s true. National Bikini Day is observed on July 5 every year.

History of National Bikini Day:

The history and origin of the day is unknown. However, July 5 is observed as Bikini Day because designer Louis Réard designed the world’s smallest bathing suit and named it as a bikini in 1946 on this day.  Bikini was named after the Bikini Atoll, where the United States carried out nuclear tests. While Europe enthusiastically donned the bikini after a long and arduous world war, American’s sense of decency kept them from accepting the bikini until the 1960s.

Today, bikinis are available in all shapes and sizes for women of all age groups. Designers expanded the style to flatter more body shapes, enticing more women to wear the fashion.
