Every year National Education Day is celebrated on November 11, 2020, in India. This day marks the birth anniversary of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad. He served the nation from 1947 to 1958 as the first Minister of Education in Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru’s cabinet.

With a reformer, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad was a freedom fighter. Also, he was not just a scholar but committed to building the nation through education.

Maulana Abdul Kalam Azad was the first education minister of independent India. He served the nation from August 15, 1947, to February 2, 1958. He also founded Sangeet Natak Akademi, Sahitya Akademi, and Lalit Kala Akademi to promote education and culture in the country.

In 2008, the Ministry of Human Resource Development made an announcement that reads: “The ministry has decided to commemorate the birthday of this great son of India by recalling his contribution to the cause of education in India. November 11 every year, from 2008 onward, will be celebrated as the National Education Day, without declaring it a holiday.”
