National gold-medalist wrestler dies after drinking sanitiser for two days

In a shocking incident, a national level gold medallist wrestler dies after drinking sanitizer. Ajay Thakur alias Ajju was arrested by the Himachal Pradesh Crime Branch in a relation to a robbery case, a Hindi daily reported.

A panel of doctors conducted the post-mortem of the body in front of the magistrate on the video conferencing on Tuesday. The deceased is survived by his wife and a daughter.

Ajay was a resident of Saini Majra in Nalagarh, Himachal Pradesh. He also served in the army for three years in the rank of Subedar, however, Ajay quit the job. Ajay, along with his friend VK Rana, started training people for wrestling in the Bajrang Akhada opened in Saini Majra.

In a Panchkula robbery case 11 months ago, the police also suspected Ajay Thakur. Ajay, who was in Ambala Central jail for the last three months, was upset about the situation and started drinking sanitizer for straight two days. He died on Monday while undergoing treatment at the civil hospital after his situation worsened.

The deceased’s colleague-friend said, “Ajay had been drinking sanitizer for the last two days. He did not agree to stop. He had bought two bottles of sanitizer from the canteen, asking to wash his hands.”

Jail Superintendent Lakhbir Singh also suspected the cause of death due to drinking sanitiser.
