Naveen Patnaik, Arvind Kejriwal are high performing CMs

New Delhi, Jan 16 (IANS) The latest IANS C-Voter State of the Nation 2021 survey shows that non-NDA and non-Congress ruled states have posted the best satisfaction numbers.

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has topped the chart with 78 per cent approval rating, closely followed by Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party supremo Arvind Kejriwal at 77 per cent.

What is most surprising is that Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh, who is being credited with the success of anti-farm law protests, posted a very low rating of 9 per cent.

Overall, the Chief Ministers of the Congress-ruled states have done a good job with Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel posting more than 55 per cent rating in the satisfaction table.

The losers in the game are Chief Ministers of the BJP-ruled states with the satisfaction level of the Chief Ministers of Goa, Haryana and Uttarakhand remaining in the single digit. While Uttarakhand’s Trivendra Singh Rawat posted a poor 0.41 per cent in the satisfaction scale, Haryana’s Manohar Lal Khattar could only fetch 8.2 per cent while Goa’s Pramod Sawant could only secure 4.9 per cent.

On the other hand, the Chief Ministers of Kerala and Andhra Pradesh did very well in the satisfaction scale as both of them scored more than 60 per cent. While Kerala is ruled by the CPI(M)-led Left Democratic Front with Pinarayi Vijayan at the helm, Andhra Pradesh is governed by the YSR Congress Party led by Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy.

Surprisingly, Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao has not done well and his acceptance level remains at a poor 22 per cent. This is despite the fact that he came back with a good majority and was able to give a good fight in the local body polls.

Another surprise has been Mamata Banerjee of the Trinamool Congress, who has been able to hold her fort in poll-bound West Bengal. Though she has not been able to top the chart, Banerjee still managed a satisfaction level of 52 per cent, keeping in mind that she will be fighting for a third term in the state. She is being given a tough fight by the BJP which wants to displace the Left and the Congress permanently from the state.

The only Chief Minister from the BJP stable who seems to be holding on to the popularity and satisfaction chart is Shivraj Singh Chouhan of Madhya Pradesh, who has been able to touch 50 per cent in the satisfaction table, which is not the case with his other BJP counterparts.

The real surprise came from Uttar Pradesh where BJP’s poster boy Yogi Adityanath is the Chief Minister. Adityanath has been seen as a no-nonsense CM who was able to maintain law and order during the lockdown period. He seems to be very well positioned even now but his approval ratings as per the survey stood at 35 per cent, which is not good if we keep in mind that Arvind Kejriwal and Naveen Patnaik posted more than 70 per cent.

Even the high-profile Nitish Kumar has done badly in Bihar, posting a mere 36 per cent. At one point of time, he was known as ‘Sushasan Kumar’ in Bihar.

The survey was carried out among over 30,000 respondents across the country.
